Many of us who have given our lives to Christ would like more than anything else to see our family members saved as well. The first thing we have to remember, is that we have no power to save anyone. The only person who can save anyone is Jesus Christ. So if you ever had the notion that you were responsible for saving someone, you might be a bit misguided. We can however, play a vital part in planting seeds in our family’s lives and then leave the rest entirely up to Jesus Christ.
How do we plant the seeds? It is simple, all you need to do is to live your life the way God wants you to.
The Holy Spirit will show you what to do, how to do it and also when to do it.
About four years ago, a good friend of ours who was a Christian, lived in an apartment next to us. He had to move but before he left, he gave us a CD with Gospel Music on it. It was the first time I ever had such a CD. Actually, if it was left up to me, I do not think that I would have ever thought of getting a Gospel CD. I was more into Soft Rock. Anyhow, our friend knew the type of music I listened to and when he handed the CD to me, he said that he knows I would enjoy it. I was a bit confused, wondering how on earth can someone enjoy Gospel Music when you are accustomed to Soft Rock?
So, about a month passed before I finally decided to play the CD. Upon listening to it for the first time, I realized that the Gospel Music had a similar beat to Soft Rock and it was appealing to me. After hearing the same songs over and over, I got to know the lyrics and began singing along.
Before you know it, I was hooked on this type of Worship Music. A couple months later, our friend sent us another CD and that was it. We did not keep in close contact with him. We spoke to each other about once or twice for the year.
Some three years later, I gave my life to Christ and I was saved. My wife gave her life to Christ a week after I did. I remember praying hard for Sarah (our daughter) to give her life to Christ. At one point in time I wondered if my prayers were being heard because she did not look like she was ready to do it.
Six months later, our daughter gave her life to Christ in that same year, on our wedding anniversary. Man, it was the best gift we could have ever received. I realized afterward that everything works in God’s timing and not ours. When I told our Christian friend with the CDs that we had given our lives to Christ, he said that the day he gave us the first CD, he prayed that it would change our lives and that we would invite Jesus into our lives. He too was overjoyed that we eventually made that decision.
By giving us the CDs, our friend was in fact planting a seed in our lives and he prayed for us. He also believed that Jesus would take care of the rest and this is what actually happened. It was all in God’s timing. Likewise, we should plant seeds in our family’s and other people’s lives and pray for them.
Just by showing kindness and love, are ways to plant a seed.
Even to give someone a drop down the street or taking time to talk to them about what God is doing in your life, these are just a few ways to plant seeds. But what is also very important is to continue to pray for them, that their hearts will be changed by God, in His timing.
I pray that opportunities will come your way for you to plant seeds in people’s lives and you will leave it in the hand of God to do what is left to be done.
