The Bible declares “For God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16.
You talk about opportunity knocking on your door! ‘Whosoever’ is such a powerful word, it means you and me! You would think people would say – wow – count me in, I want everlasting life and I certainly do not want to perish!
Unfortunately, many resist God’s love and His plan to save us from ourselves.
Would the creation rebel against its Creator? I can think of nothing more humorous, sad, comical or foolish than rebellion towards our Maker. Shall we rebel against him that has given us air, oxygen, our eyes, our noses and our mouths and even life itself?
There are many creatures on the earth – cats, birds, lions, dogs, worms and of course human beings. If you can choose to be any creature what would it be? To fly free like a bird (all birds land at sometime), to roar like lion, or maybe when you see how luxuriously some dogs live, it makes you wish. Yet, the greatest of all privileges is to be a human being.
We are created in the image of God. What is it to be created in the image of God? It is to have the capacity to love.
God is love and because we are like him, we can love.
When my daughter gives me a hug, I tell you a moment seems like blessings forever. It is like you have lived and are full; all the sights in the world, Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon, the pyramids of Egypt, would gladly be traded for a hug. What is the thing called “love” that devalues logic? What a privilege!
A lawyer once said to me that fear was the greatest motivator, I said to him it appears that you have never been in love. If a dog (pit-bull) was attacking you; you would leap a ten foot wall to run away. However, if a dog was attacking my daughter, I would leap a ten foot wall not to escape but to run towards my daughter to protect her. Loves makes us to run to what we would normally run from.
God loves you; He will leap any wall that separates you from him.
Sin does not make God want to run from us but rather to us. Many of us have walls, walls of sin and dead religion that keeps us away from God. God wants to tear down those walls and give you a heavenly embrace. He says “today if you hear his voice harden not your hearts”. Sometimes, a father tries to hug his child and his child stiffens up. I want to encourage you to swing your arms open wide! Jesus with great pain and sacrifice stretched out his arms to you on the cross. No wonder the Bible says, “For God SO loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” That word “so” means sooo much. Thank you Jesus.
If you have never given your life to Jesus Christ or have drifted away from Him, I pray that you will open your heart to Him today.
