I personally don’t watch the news. Crazy, right? Well, I wouldn’t say I’m missing out on anything because chances are I’ll see the latest drama on Facebook or for sure hear about it when I go to work.
Last year I worked in an institution closely with a lady. Every morning when I arrived and throughout the day, she would fill me in on each situation concerning crime, murder and death. She would want me to sit down and engage with her in a long conversation about the evil in the world.
For sure after a while, I noticed it began to affect me.
More and more each day I would become shocked at the evil in the world. I began to feel hopeless and depressed. I knew these feelings weren’t of God, so I turned to Him.
He has an answer.
“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honorable, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things”. (Philippians 4:8 ASV)
Oh my… Is God saying that He doesn’t want us to be up to date with the latest news? Also, how will we ever pray for a situation if we don’t know all of the details? How will we ever be safe and aware if we don’t even know what’s going on in our own country? Doesn’t God want us to have compassion for those affected by crime? Isn’t it selfish to ignore everything going on around us and focus on our lives?
Well, personally, I believe that the realms of evil are endless. If you were to start to explore what goes on with witchcraft, the Illuminati, people who hurt children, and what goes through a husband’s mind when he kills his wife, you will be entering a dimension that is full of endless evil.
Evil that is controlled by a spiritual realm and things we don’t understand, and you don’t need to be acquainted with evil things.
Having knowledge about all of the evil in the world will only make you hopeless. Jesus calls you to focus on His truth and on His light because it is the only thing that can change the world. The only thing that can shake the evil out there is Jesus’ light. You don’t need to be acquainted with the evil out there, but please, be acquainted with Jesus.
Also, people often say that they need knowledge of the crime situations so they know where to go etc. But, as a Christian you can depend on God to lead you where you should go. Your judgments should be made by the spirit of God rather than man and the news.
So, set your minds on Jesus. Fill your mind with the one who fills you with hope and truth. Be led of the Spirit of God in all that you do and leave God to deal with the evils of this world. Pray for your country as the Holy Spirit leads, and overcome your personal battles through Jesus.
