Have you ever wondered what will happen to you when you die? Well, most of us believe that we will either go to heaven if we were good or hell if we were bad. Some say heaven and hell are right here on earth. But, do we know what it is really like in heaven and in hell? How does the Bible describe heaven and hell?

Heaven is beyond our comprehension.

(I Corinthians 2:9) “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.” God will live with His people and there will be an end to death, crying, and pain.

(Revelation 21:3-4) “And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Now the dwelling of God is with men, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Peace will prevail in the kingdom.

(Isaiah 65:25) “The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but dust will be the serpent’s food. They will neither harm nor destroy in all My holy mountain.” John’s description goes like this

(Revelation 21:18-21) “The wall was built of diamond, and the city of pure gold, like clear glass. The foundations of the city wall were faced with all kinds of precious stone: the first with diamond, the second with lapis lazuli, the third with turquoise, the fourth crystal, the fifth agate, the sixth ruby, the seventh gold quartz, the eighth malachite, the ninth topaz, the tenth emerald, the eleventh sapphire and the twelfth amethyst. The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate being made of a single pearl and the main street of the city was pure gold, transparent as glass.”

Can you imagine this?

Hell, according to the bible is described as a lake of fire, a place of everlasting destruction, a place of suffering, affliction and retribution. The following is Jesus’ own words about hell:-

(Matthew 13:40-42), “well then, just as the darnel is gathered up and burnt in the fire, so it will be at the end of time. The Son of man will send His angels and they will gather out of His kingdom all causes of falling and all who do evil, and throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

(Mark 9:42-47), “But anyone who is the downfall of one of these little ones who have faith, would be better thrown into the sea with a great millstone hung round his neck. And if your hand should be your downfall, cut it off , it is better for you to enter life crippled, than to have two hands and go to hell, into the fire that can never be put out. And if your foot should be your downfall, cut it off, it is better for you to enter life lame, than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. And if your eye should be your downfall, tear it out, it is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell where their worm will never die nor their fire be put out.”

Why then do most people give up heaven to go to hell? Maybe it is because they just do not know or do not think it is important to think about it right now. Maybe it is because they do not want to change their lives and live for their creator who is really the only one worthy of living for. Or, maybe it is because they want to live for themselves, their own way, until their hearts are content. Those who live this way believe that this will give them happiness.

One thing to note is that hell was created for Satan and his demonic angels. It was not created as a place for us.

It is by choice that some of us end up in hell.

what happens
Conquering death

If we do not choose to repent from our sins and accept Jesus Christ as our Saviour, we will not be able to gain entry into heaven and we will end up in hell. The big fat liar (Satan) wants to bring all of us down to hell with him. The devil will try everything to fool us into believing that there are other ways to get to heaven. For example, paying your tithes, going to church, living a good life and giving to the poor. He will even try to prove to us that there is no heaven and hell. But please remember this, no one can come to the Father unless they come through His son Jesus Christ. By rejecting Christ, people are really giving up heaven for hell. Sadly, they are giving up heaven for not only hell, but for failure, despair, and what some call ‘hell on earth.’

My dear brothers and sisters, I pray that you make the decision to accept Jesus Christ in your life now and that you do not put it off thinking that there is enough time. I pray that you will not be deceived by the evil one and that you will choose the right path that will lead you to heaven i.e. Jesus Christ.
God bless.
