Worship means adoration; love; reverence; respect and devotion. You may be wondering, how are we to worship the Lord? There are several ways. I always thought that the correct way to worship the Lord was to pray over and over and you had to tell Him that you loved Him earnestly.
I also thought that maybe if you went somewhere serene and just talked from your heart that this might be a better way. What I did not know was that singing is also a great part of worship. Actually, to some people, it is the best way to worship God. You do not have to be a great singer, you can just sing along to the gospel songs (i.e. with meaning in your heart) and when you praise Him, you will feel as if you have really experienced an encounter with the Almighty Father. Before, I used to listen to a lot of news and talk shows but now, most of the time, I find myself listening to worship music.
When I awake in the morning, I would put on some worship music until I leave home to go to work.
It sets me in the right frame of mind. Then on my way to work, I would listen to some more and sing along. It helps me not to bother with the traffic jam and the reckless driving out there. Whenever it is convenient in work I would listen to it; it releases job stress. I believe that most people that I know who listen to worship music feel the same way that I do.
Besides praying and singing, another way to truly worship God is by doing what He has called us to do. We could pray all the fanciest prayers in the world, sing all the best hymns and gospel songs there are, but if we do not do what we are called to do, it comes to naught. Jesus instructed us to go out, preach the gospel of the Lord and share the good news of salvation.
We have all been given a special gift from the Lord and when we use these gifts to help spread His Word, this will be truly WORSHIPING Him.
Some people are gifted with speech, some with listening, some with singing, some with playing an instrument, some with writing poems, songs etc. Some with dancing, some with organizing skills, some with kindness and most of us with something that we do not even know about as yet. When the time is right, He will reveal your gift and what He wants you to do for Him.
I have witnessed a man called Jim selling pies at the Dial in Arima. Jim has a special pie selling skill. I watch Jim bag his pies and he has a stylish technique about him. He is able to smoothly deal with his customers in a quick and efficient manner. At the end, when Jim hands his customer their purchase he will always say to each of them, “Have a Blessed Day or Praise God or Bless up Meh Brudder.” This pie selling skill is Jim’s gift from God; he does it effortlessly. Jim’s pies are more expensive than another guy who sells the same thing five steps away. I have sampled both and they tasted the same way. You could not tell the difference if you were blindfolded. However, Jim is always able to sell out his pies hours before the other guy does.
Praise and thank God for all He has done for you.
Ask Him to reveal your gift to you so that you may use it to worship Him. Listen to God with your heart and mind as He most likely will not speak to you directly in words, but He may show you signs of what He wants you to do. The important thing now is when He reveals it to you, you need to do it.
Therefore, when we worship the Lord, we need to glorify God; we need to build up the body of Christ and we need to do His will on the earth. My brothers and sisters, I pray that when we worship the Lord, we speak to Him sincerely from our hearts, we listen to Him attentively with our minds and we do what He wants us to do, laying aside every fear and every concern knowing that He will make a way for us. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
