It really saddens me to see my brothers and sisters who claim to be of God, neglect the basics of Christianity, which is to love one another. If I ask most Christians if they have love, they will say “of course!” When you show love to the people who hurt and disappoint you, then you’ve loved. Oh wait, you never claimed to have love for everyone? Check this, 1 John 2: 9-11.
“He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.”
Its seems to me that we don’t really understand what love is.
We seem to think that love is only about loving our loved ones. This statement in itself makes little sense. I’ll let the Bible explain, Luke 6: 32:35:
“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.
But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful”.
Do we even read this scripture while going our daily devotions?
Time to stop fooling ourselves, let’s demonstrate the True Love of God, a love that compelled God to send His only Son to die for a people whose hearts were far from Him. In fact, we hated him, so much, that we killed Him for loving us.
Love suffers long and is patient.
How long is long you may ask? Ask Jesus His answer to that question and thank God that He does not love us as we love others.
1 John 4: 7-12 Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
