Young people are faced with many life altering decisions by the age of 17. What area of education and career should I pursue? Where do I see myself in ten years? Should I move out of my parent’s home? Is marriage for me? The Bible says in Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go: I will guide you with mine eye.”

Many times you just go with the flow. You say that this is the path my parents set out for me and I don’t want to disappoint them, so I’ll just follow it. Sometimes your parents may know what’s best for you, but God knows you better. After all, He created you with a specific purpose in mind.

If Moses followed his Egyptian parents, he may have been the next Pharaoh, but would we even know his name today?

Would he even have made it to heaven? Seek God in your decision making as young people, because so many of us just get caught up by the pull of this world’s current.

If you’ve ever been caught in an ocean’s current, you know that to go against it, takes a bit of a fight.

The same can be said about the patterns of this world, which can act very much like a vicious current, blindly sweeping you into a comfortable mold. God’s path is not always the easy one, but if we love and trust Him, it’s the one that will bring us the most peace, purpose and satisfaction in life.

Take the advice of Proverbs 2: 1-10 “My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds success in store for the upright; he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair – every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.”
