“Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:14-16
His mercy lets us know that He will have compassion on us even though we don’t deserve it. But what does the grace of our Lord do for us? Is it just favor? Kindness? Or gentleness from God?
Well the definition of the word “charis” (grace), is not only used as God’s favor in our lives, but it is also the power of the holiness of God to influence our souls.
Hebrews chapter 4 explains that Jesus was tempted just like us, yet He did not sin. It goes further to say that we can come boldly to His throne of grace, to receive mercy and grace to help us in the time of need.
Ok, so Jesus was tempted and never sinned.
The first thing we can gather is that when I’m being tempted, God understands the feeling because He endured it Himself.
He can relate to us in every situation that’s present in our lives. Because of that, not only does He have compassion for us but He sees the need to bring victory in our lives, which leads to my second point: He never sinned. This is where grace and mercy becomes effective in our lives; it helps us in our time of need that we would not sin.
When we approach the throne of God, He doesn’t punish us for our sins (mercy), but He gives us the power to overcome temptation (grace).
Grace is the work of God in and through our lives to live as holy and righteous as He is. He gives us the compassion to freely love but also the strength to look at sin in its face and say “never again”.
Today I want to share with you that you don’t have to remain in addictions, curses or strongholds. You can go boldly to the throne of Jesus Christ and find freedom by the power of the Holy Spirit. It all begins when we repent from our hearts and believe in His love for us. May His grace and mercy be with us all.
