Who Is Your Daddy?

As a young man I grew up without an active father in my life. My dad left when I was really young so I didn’t really know what I was missing. I never thought I was missing anything, in fact I viewed it as a blessing because I could do whatever I wanted. I never felt fatherless or even angry at my natural father.

Several years ago, one of my friends was getting married and I was the “best man”. During the reception ceremony, as the groom’s father was speaking I heard the voice of God saying, “This is a father.”

I began to look at his father with interest, trying to figure out why God told me this. As I looked, I heard the voice of God again, “I will teach you how to be a son.” So, I asked God, “How are you going to do that?” He instantly replied, “By making you a father – You are going to have a daughter!”

God had spoken to me. I immediately published on our ministry page – Kirwin and Onikka are the proud parents of a beautiful daughter. Well in a little less than 2 years, our beautiful daughter Kristin came. God never ceases to amaze me, His wisdom and His love. He said that He will teach me to be a son by making me a father. My daughter has taught me some of life’s greatest lessons.

Some eight years later I am still learning to be son. Here are a few things I have learned:

  1. I needed a father. I thought I wasn’t missing anything but I now know differently.
  2. Without a dad, I had to work hard for whatever I wanted. Now I believe God for an inheritance. I have learned to say, “Daddy, I need this….” God said to me, “Kirwin, I want to spoil you with my love.” I am not afraid to be God’s spoilt child.
  3. I watch my daughter and think “No good thing will I withhold from your life.” Now I know, He never withholds. He give us what we need in His perfect timing.
  4. I have learned to ask.

Jesus tell us about His Daddy when He says,

“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:11

God wants to give us so many awesome gifts. Everyday, I am learning more and more how to be a son. I guess it is easy when you have the Best Daddy in the Universe.

What have you learned about being a son or daughter?
