Paul calls the Gospel the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is important for us to preach the whole Gospel. We often hear testimonies or statements in Church saying, “Thank God for grace for we are just sinners.” or “We all sin everyday.” However, Christ rose from the grave to give a Gospel that is filled with victory.
The death of Jesus at the Cross accomplished so much for humanity.
At the Cross, He took our sins, our sicknesses, our torments, our chastisement and so much more. Essentially, at the Cross, Jesus took the old you and crucified it. At the Cross, the old you died! Amen! Jesus put to death everything that keeps you from being like Him.
However, the power of the Gospel is not found in the death but rather the resurrection of Jesus. Paul puts it this way:
“And if Christ has not been raised, then your faith is useless and you are still guilty of your sins.” – 1 Corinthians 15:17
“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
Paul tells us that our salvation comes not through believing Jesus died only but believing that God raised Him from the dead. Your healing, your holiness, your righteousness and everything needed to make you like Christ is found in the Resurrection. When Jesus rose, the new you rose with Him and you became a “new creature” in Christ. The Burial speaks of the absolute victory of the Gospel, that the old you is dead and buried and the new you now lives.
John puts it this way:
“Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.” 1 John 4:17
How can you know when you believe and are living through and in the Gospel?
You can go and sin no more! Jesus looked at a woman caught in the act of adultery and was gracious and kind to her. He offered her forgiveness and told her, “Neither do I condemn you.” It is so great to be forgiven but to have to go back to sin, lust, porn, hate, anger, bitterness, offers us no freedom. That would be a Gospel with no power. Thank God Jesus said to this woman, “Go and sin no more!” It is the ultimate of God’s love. “No more” gives no room to the devil. It is says that God’s love is complete and perfect towards us.
You may say “but what if I sin?” Well, Jesus will forgive you and cleanse you. So, that’s not the question but rather “Do you want to sin?” If your answer is no then simply believe the Gospel. In fact, Paul says:
“My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father…” 1 John 2:1
If Satan is sleeping your house, it is not because God has given him accommodation. You believe the whole Gospel by believing that Jesus has given you power to sin no more. An easy way to tell if you are walking in the new creature is by your lifestyle.
The new creature is in Christ and just like Jesus.
Can Jesus watch porn? Does Jesus hate? Does Jesus commit fornication? No, no and a big No!
Paul warns of an end time anti-Christ spirit that will have a form of godliness. It will present itself in a godly manner, it will look Christian but it is really from Satan. Paul warns:
“They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!” 2 Timothy 3:5
Saying you are righteous with no power or desire to live righteous makes the New Testament the ministry of hypocrisy. Don’t let anyone fool you – righteous people live righteous because they are righteous. I want to encourage you today to believe the Gospel and don’t deny the power!
