1 Samuel 16:6-7, Samuel, the prophet looked at Eliab, Jesse’s son, and said – “Surely the Lord’s anointed is before me.” God quickly corrected him, “Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.”
Well, there is a lesson for every man and woman! Sadly, many make the wrong choice in choosing a mate by looking at the outward appearance. Sure he may have a nice grill in his mouth and muscles that can make The Hulk jealous, but is his heart after God’s heart? Does he or she delight to do God’s will?
It would be a sad thing for you to choose someone whom God has refused (rhyme in effect).
The heart is the real you – strip away Hillsong, your church attendance and your favorite Sunday garb and what would you look like? What does your heart look like? If you are not experiencing God in your heart, you are just having a mere intellectual experience. You would be surprised how many Christians are atheists. That’s why Jesus said in Matthew 12:39 that a wicked and a sinful generation seeketh after a sign – an outward manifestation. It is also amazing how many Christians are unbelievers – yeah I know, no such thing eh?
The devil is all too willing to leave God’s word in people’s minds but tries to quickly snatch it away from their hearts.
No one can become a hypocrite faster than someone who has an intellectual understanding but no faith that comes from the heart.
Proverbs 4:23 -“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Wow – above all else! EVERYTHING!
Every year, people make resolutions looking for change in their lives.
They think maybe a change of environment is needed. So they change their wives/husbands, their jobs, their homes but sadly as the saying goes – the more things change, the more they stay the same. We always look to change people or circumstances. We always look to change external circumstances. We run out and try to change everything outside of us.
Real transformation involves changing who you are in your heart.
Hey, Jesus said it plainly, clean the inside of the cup and the outside will be clean.
If you have never given your life to Jesus, why not ask Him for a new heart today? He has an awesome heart waiting for you. This heart has all of God’s laws and love written on it. God will give you a heart that delights to do His will. The Good News is that you can have Jesus in your heart!
If you desire this, simply pray:
“Jesus, I receive you into my heart as my Lord. Heavenly Father, please write your love in my heart and take anything that is not love away from me.”
God has made you for intimacy with Him and He wants you to commune with Him in your heart. God is a heart God, trust Him with all your heart.
