Three little letters that have a very big impact on the daily lives of women:

PMS (Premenstrual syndrome).

Most of us are all too familiar with its monthly effects. For some, symptoms start 2 weeks prior to their period. Women experience symptoms such as: bloating, constipation, tension, anxiety, crying spells, depression, appetite changes and the list goes on.

If you’re unfamiliar with this syndrome, then you’re most probably male. Just reading those symptoms sends chills up your spine for two reasons. As a man, you just can’t relate to having all those feeling at once and every month! The next reason is, you’ve been on the receiving end of the fury of a woman smack in the middle of PMS! And for you men, the abuse you are forced to endure in the name of PMS, is just not right!

What I really want to talk about however, is the spiritual side of PMS.

You may be thinking, “There’s a spiritual side?” News flash! We’re spiritual beings who live in a body of flesh. As children of God we’re MORE spirit than flesh. We’re called to “walk in the spirit and NOT fulfill the lust of the flesh” Galatians 5:6. We’re told to “crucify our flesh DAILY.” Romans 8:13. With these undeniable truths in mind, what exactly happens during the time of PMS? Do we tell our spirit man who is born of God to take a rest for a week because our hormonal urges are stronger than His leading?

Have you ever stopped to think, that like every other overwhelming fleshy urge that we experience as human beings, PMS is just a avenue for the enemy to work through our flesh man? How many times have you said or done something that you would not normally do, but because it’s that time of the month you easily give Satan access to your flesh?

Yes, that’s exactly what you do, PMS (Permission monthly Satan).

I said something once to my husband during monthly permission time, that I most certainly did not mean in my heart. After I said it, I sat and thought to myself, “That’s not like me” and at that moment realized that during that entire day I was experiencing a strange mood due to permission monthlies. Sadly, even though my “mood” was temporary, and supposedly caused by legitimate hormonal changes in my body, the words I spoke to my husband could not be reversed.

I could have caused permanent damage to my marriage, in my temporary state of PMS. Thank God that my husband is a wise forgiving man, who knows me well enough to know what’s truly in my heart towards him. What about the times you hit your children or say hurtful things to them in the name of PMS? What about our bosses and employees, or even our friends, is it acceptable to treat them that way?

Satan has come to steal, kill and destroy, and every month millions of women around the world open a door called PMS for him to do so.

I want to challenge my readers to close that door in your life.

The Bible promises in Isaiah 26:3 to keep in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Christ. Does this apply to women experiencing PMS, or are our hormones stronger than our God?

I urge you, allow the Holy Spirit into every area of your life and He will bring change. He will give you wisdom at that time of month as to what you should eat or things that can be done to lessen symptoms. Most of all, why not believe God for total healing in this area of your life? Don’t accept it as normal; ask him to remove every symptom from your life. I want to leave you with these two scriptures, why not believe it!

God is not a man that He should lie! No more permission for Satan.

1 Corinthians 10:13 “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

Hebrews 4:15-16 “For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
