It was sort of hard for me to say the title of last Sunday’s message – Useless Preaching. However, this message was much needed. You know, Jesus told us that by believing the Gospel with Baptism, we are supposed to be casting out devils, healing the sick and functioning in the gifts of the Spirit. It is sad how complicated Christianity has become when it should simply be about believing the Gospel.
Baptism is not the Gospel but an outward demonstration that we understand and believe the Gospel.
Many people treat baptism as a ritual where they are dunked in water.
So you ask many people are you a believer and they respond, “I am baptised!” – as if H20 can save us.
It is in believing the Gospel and walking in our baptism that we are empowered to live a resurrected life. Baptism is all about believing that your old man is dead and you are a new creature in Christ. Baptism is all about living the resurrected life. That’s why in Hebrews Chapter 6, “The Doctrine of Baptisms” is listed as one of the foundations of a believer. We must live empowered by the Doctrine.
Water Baptism is an event but the Doctrine of Baptisms is a life, where we believe we are dead and now made alive in Christ.
It is sad that we have complicated the Gospel with useless preaching that has no power. Paul put it this way, “And if Christ has not been raised, then all our preaching is useless, and your faith is useless.” 1 Cor 15:14
Any preaching that does not reveal the risen Christ is lacking the power of God. Our faith as believers is not centered around a Jesus passed but a RISEN CHRIST. Paul says to the Romans: “….if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10
Paul did not say salvation comes by believing Jesus lived on the earth, or even believing that Jesus was crucified, but rather that He was risen. In fact, Paul says in the verse above if Christ be not raised, you faith is useless. Useless Faith is faith that is not placed in the RISEN Christ. I am talking about faith that releases the power of God.
The Gospel is essentially that we died in His death so that we can live in His life.
You must believe that you have been raised up together with Christ and are seated in Him in Heavenly places. As I see Jesus seated at the right hand of God – Beautiful, Holy, Righteous, Perfect – I used my faith to believe that I am in Him. I am righteous because He is righteous.
As you believe that you are in the RISEN Christ and that He is in you, you will find:
“That the communication of your faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.” Philemon 1:16
Do people seem happier in the church or a fete? It is no wonder many Christians seem so miserable. Paul spoke of Christians who did not place their faith in the RISEN Christ:
“If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.” 1 Cor 15:19
I want to encourage to live a life with no limits – Jesus has conquered sickness, lack, pain, disease, sorrow, death and Satan, and this Jesus now lives in you and you in Him – only believe!
Don’t use your faith to fight a battle that Jesus has already won! Don’t use your faith to fight an enemy that is already defeated. Use your faith to believe that you are in the RISEN Jesus and He is in you. Come on – it is time to live a victorious life and step into the supernatural rest of God. Fight a good fight of faith and lay hold of eternal life.
Maybe you are going through a problem or a sickness and it has been a battle and you have been wondering if you have enough faith to overcome.
Place your faith in Jesus Christ so that you may live by the faith of Jesus Christ. It’s all about being crucified with Christ so that we can live a resurrected life. Hey, Jesus has the faith to overcome sickness, so place you faith in Him. Just believe that Jesus loves you and you are in Him and the faith of Jesus will overcome every situation you are facing.
Satan loves to pick a fight. Ha! I am not falling for that – I don’t need faith to fight Satan, sickness, poverty or any situation. I will use my faith to believe I am in Jesus, I will place my faith in Jesus and Jesus will mash up Satan. You can live in the life of the RISEN Christ. Don’t go one on one with Satan. Rather, tell him it is finished and he is already defeated. You have the best life possible – the life of Christ and you will get the best things anyone can deserve because you get what Jesus deserves – and it doesn’t get any better than that. Now tell me where is the real party at!
