I remember a time in my life when I needed a certain amount of money by a particular time and though I could have turned to others for help, I decided this time I would put my trust in God. The deadline was drawing near and I still had no way of getting this money.
The week before the deadline was a tough one for me at work, because three of our five staff members in my department did not come out to work for various different reasons. I worked overtime every day that week and ate at my desk, we were not paid overtime in the company, but I could see no other way to get the work done.
I was so busy that week that I forgot about the deadline.
At the end of the week my boss came to me and did something that was very uncharacteristic. He gave me an envelope and said that he really appreciated my hard work and just wanted to give me something extra. Now it was not the end of the month, it was the middle of month and he could have easily included it in my salary at the end of the month. When I opened the envelope it was the exact amount of money I needed to meet my need. God is great!
As simple as this situation seemed it drew me closer to God, and I realized that if I had turned to someone for help in this situation I would have missed out on having the opportunity of my heavenly father providing for me. It’s a feeling that I can’t explain, even though I knew God was real all along, having him provide for me like that at the right time and the right amount, felt like he reached out of heaven an touched me, it was like another way to feel God’s presence in my life.
God is real, He’s alive and He wants us to put our trust in Him, like a child would in a good father.
The Bible says in Philippians 4:19 that my God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. You can never know God as provider, if you never give him a chance to provide for you. There are many times in our lives when we have financial needs and we turn to the bank or a friend. I dare you to trust God the next time you have need. The nice thing about allowing God to meet your needs is that you don’t have to pay Him back.
This experience opened a new door of faith for me.
It’s one thing to hear about the love of God and to read about the love of God, but when you experience it for yourself, your faith in Him increases tremendously. I started putting my trust in God for every need I had, and it was as though I couldn’t say “Lord I need …” fast enough, and He would supply it.
There is a misguided teaching in the church that says if you’re a faithful tither only then will God always provide for you. Basically, what that teaches is that God will bless you if you bless Him by giving. So people walk around thinking they’re blessed because they paid God His dues and if they don’t pay God His dues, they are cursed. If you believe this, you’ve just ranked yourself even lower than the birds in Gods eyes.
Jesus says in Matthew 6:25-26 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are ye not much better than them? God has always been faithful to me, even when I was not faithful to Him, so I encourage you to trust Him and you will see Him do the same for you!
