“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ…”
We are called to make every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. We often think that we fight Satan, his lies or his thoughts by bringing them captive to our obedience. The obedience of Christ is all about righteousness – this is one of our main weapons against Satan’s lies.
What do I mean? When satan comes with a thought of lust, you can say: “because I am in Jesus I am righteous!” Is this a thought that is in agreement with the finished work of Jesus Christ? or is this a thought that lines up with the righteousness of Christ?” Take the thought captive and say: “because I am righteous I cast you out in Jesus’ name!”
“For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.” Romans 5:19
The only way the enemy could have you thinking evil thoughts is if you don’t believe that you are in Christ and don’t believe you are righteous by Jesus’ obedience or you refuse to take his lies captive.
If you don’t believe in the righteousness of Christ, you won’t be able to see Satan’s thoughts as lies – this is a big point!
All that is good but we need something more natural or effortless to defeat evil thoughts that seem to bombard the mind daily. Let’s see how simple it is.
If I told you – the earth is a triangle – immediately, you will see that thought as a lie and you will bring it to the truth and reject it – this process will happen naturally. Now because I believe in my heart that I am righteous in Christ, any thought of me sinning -is a lie and I will immediately reject it. Knowing the truth in our heart indeed sets us free.
Because of the obedience of Christ, we are called to the obedience of faith.
Jesus’ obedience has made all of God’s promises available to us and now we qualify for God’s blessings. Our part is to simply believe in what Jesus has accomplished.
“Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, but now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the OBEDIENCE OF FAITH” Romans 16:26
