There is a movement today that claims that Jesus and Paul preached different Gospels. This is as far from the truth as possible.

This verse is used many times to substantiate their claims – Galatians 2:7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter.

This is used as evidence that Peter and Paul also preached different Gospel. Let’s look at this error. This scripture addresses not the message or Gospel but the people they preached to. Here is a look at the same verse in different translations:

NIV

On the contrary, they recognized that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been to the circumcised.

New Living Translation

Instead, they saw that God had given me the responsibility of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, just as he had given Peter the responsibility of preaching to the Jews.

Amplified Version

But on the contrary, when they [really] saw that I had been entrusted [to carry] the Gospel to the uncircumcised [Gentiles, just as definitely] as Peter had been entrusted [to proclaim] the Gospel to the circumcised [Jews, they were agreeable]

Well that’s clear – Peter was entrusted to the Jews and Paul was entrusted to the Gentiles. This scripture verse has nothing to do with the Gospel message. Let’s look to the Word to see the message the Peter preached.

Acts 15:5-11
But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.
And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter. And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; and put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Peter saw no difference between Gentiles and Jews and He believe they were saved by faith and through the grace of God.

Well that’s clear – Paul and Peter preached the same Gospel message at its core.

Galatians 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Galatians 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

If Jesus, Peter or Paul preached different Gospels from each other, according to Paul’s words Jesus and Peter would be cursed. I am sure Paul won’t dare do that!

There is only One Gospel that saves – the preaching of what was accomplished for us by the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
